[edit] Wheatpaste Recipe
You need:
[edit] Method
- take 3 tablespoons of flour in a bowl;
- add cold water and stir, until it's a runny mix;
- put one cup of water in your pot, heat it until it's almost boiling.;
- put the cold wheat-water-mix in it slowly while stirring constantly with the beater/fork (leave the pot on the hot plate while doing this);
- bring to boil (just for a minute or so) ;
- keep stirring!!
if you want, you can add a tablespoon of (white) sugar while it's still hot, for extra strength.
[edit] Marte's Method
You need:
- hot plate (stove top) and a double boiler
- stick mixer (an electric hand-held blender thingy)
- wheat flour (plain white)
- water
- spatula
- a hermetically sealed container (a plastic container will resist the shocks of being transported and bumped down onto concrete and macadam footpaths)
[edit] Method
- combine flour and cold water (1 part flour to six parts water by volume) in the top of the double boiler off the stove;
- beat the mix until it is smooth and completely lump free;
- partly fill the bottom of the double boiler with hot water;
- put the top of the double boiler on the bottom and place on the stove and turn the heat on;
- mix the wheat paste mix frequently with the stick mixer;
- the wheat paste mix will slowly come up to a simmer and clarify;
- keep beating the mix as it will tend to cook from the bottom and thicken unevenly and form lumps otherwise;
- when fully cooked, take the top of the double boiler from the bottom off the stove and beat occasionally as it cools (otherwise you will get a skin forming on the top);
- you will find that the consistency of the paste thickens somewhat as it cools down;
- use the spatula and pour the mixture in a hermetically sealed container and store it in the refrigerator;
- the wheat paste can stay useable for up to a year if stored in the refigerator.
