Urban Sprawl is the phenomena of cities expanding into the surrounding
countryside, mostly by creating more
suburbs. Cities with the most active suburban sprawl are often very
low density, consisting of
brick vanerials, or
McMansions. Aside from often destroying relatively untouched land, these developments are often built with little or no regard for the environment, the houses are often extremely
inefficient, and as
public transport is seldom included,
cars must be used to get anywhere, reinforcing
car culture, and increasing the
greenhouse and other pollution created by that form of
transport.
