Silicon is an element widely used in glass, computer chips, photovoltaic cells, and many other situations.Some sources refer to there currently being a world-wide silicon shortage[1], but this is most likely driven by the massive increase in consumer electronics, silicon baking dishes, and other useless crap, rather than solar panels.
