Human
From Envirowiki
Humans are a species of primate, originating from planet earth (arguably northern africa). Considering that you are reading this, you are probably a human.
Etymologically, the term "human" comes from the same root as the word "humus", earth, or soil (or shit, in some cases)[1], and bares little relationship to "man" (male).
Humans are distinctive from most animals in many ways, but there are only a few differences that separate us from all other known beings (well, those known by us humans, anyway), such as written communication
human beings, to to their prevalent use of hard technology, are probably the single most destructive force within earth's ecosystems. Forms of destruction include pollution (i.e. toxics, and greenhouse gas), rampant resource exploitation (i.e. mining, and old growth logging), as well as introducing non-native species.
When people talk about society, they are generally refering to human society, unless the word is preceded by another species name.
