envirowiki is a space for practical and theoretical knowledge about all things environmentalism, social justice, and sustainability. It aims to create a usable database of information for people wanting to live more sustainably, or help create a more sustainable and equitable society.
Unlike Wikipedia, envirowiki makes no claim to be unbiased, it generally puts the environment and social justice first, and renounces any economic-rationalist ideas that money might have any higher value to society than the environment. That said, envirowiki strives to remain factually correct, and present arguments in a clear, rational, scientific manner. envirowiki aims to be a knowledge base for countering the lies and misconceptions prevalent in the mass media.
[edit] Aims
To promote environmental and social consciousness by
- providing a knowledge database on environmetalism
- fighting for environmental and social justice
[edit] what envirowiki is not
I can see this section getting big. it should eventually be moved to envirowiki:is not
envirowiki is not:
- a tool for converting rightwing, neoliberal greenie haters to environmentalists. it is a tool for helping others to do that.
- a billboard for advertising. post information about relevant events to the Current events page, but use wiki format.
- boring - humour and artistic expression are quite welcome here, but care should be taken certain things, such as irony, as written language often doesn't appropriately express such feelings.
- wikipedia - we don't need the whole story of what a thing is here, just that which is environmental. if you want a balanced picture go to wikipedia.
- a blog - this is information and arguements, not personal opinion. try to avoid "I" statements ("I think..", etc.)
[edit] History
Envirowiki was started in early August 2006.
